Hail damage Facts and Myths—Don’t Believe Everything You Hear

When it comes to hail, there are a lot of misconceptions running around.  As you try to assess any damage that may have happened on your property due to hail, you should remember what is true and what simply a myth is when it comes to hail damage.

Myths and Facts of Hail Damage

Here are a few of the most important things you should keep in mind if you believe that your roof has been damaged by hail.

  1. One commonly held hail myth is that one can identify hail damage by simply glancing at a potentially damaged roof.  In fact, hail damage can only be identified by a physical examination from an expert.  So, if you suspect hail damage, you should consult with an expert to evaluate the level of damage.
  2. Another myth is that hail damage always results in missing shingles.  In fact, missing shingles are often a sign of wind damage, but they aren’t really indicative of hail.  Hail damage is much more difficult to detect and is often not noticed for months or even years after it occurs—unless you know what to look for.
  3. And one last important myth is that if the damage is minimal you shouldn’t file a claim.  It is actually a good idea to file a claim with any kind of damage, because what looks like minimal damage today may be much greater if you wait to take care of it.

Stay on top of your hail myths, and make sure that you get any damage taken care of!
