If you asked any of your family and friends if they enjoy paying ridiculous amounts of money to fill their gas tanks every month, you can probably guess what their answer is going to be. No one likes paying high prices for gas. Although you as a consumer cannot directly affect how much you pay per gallon of gas, there are things you can do to try to increase how many miles per gallon you receive. Here are a few tips and tricks that will hopefully be helpful in decreasing the amount of money you have to set aside for gas each month.
1. Buy a fuel-efficient car. Obviously a smaller car is going to get more gas per gallon than a massive SUV or truck.
2. Get a tune-up. When your car isn’t in great shape, your fuel economy isn’t going to be as good as it could be. Things like dirty air filters or spark plugs in poor condition can greatly reduce how many miles you get per gallon.
3. Keep your tires inflated. Under inflated tires are one of the most common reasons people aren’t happy with how many miles per gallon they’re getting. It’s also dangerous to be driving on tires that aren’t inflated to where they’re supposed to be.
4. Clean out your car. The heavier your car is, the more gas it’s going to use. Consider removing anything from your backseat and trunk that isn’t absolutely necessary to daily travel.
We obviously cannot control how much we pay for gas. But what we can control is how we react to it. By following these tips, you can help yourself get more miles per gallon of gas you buy.
